Grafito CANStepper

The dashboard at /dashboard is the only control page. In Chrome or Edge, Connect opens the board USB port in the browser at 115200 for readings, jog, stop, e-stop, and saving the node ID.

Compile, flash, validation, and PID calibration also start from that page, but they run on the computer the board is plugged into. Download grafito-canstepper-station.zip and unzip it. The zip contains the station program, the firmware source, and the test tools. Unzipping does not install Python or Arduino. In the unzipped folder run bash install.sh, then python3 grafito-canstepper-station.py. The dashboard then lists that computer's USB ports. Pick the port and node ID in the dashboard and press the button. The docs server does not compile or open the USB port.

Use the dashboard

  1. Connect USB-C and apply 5–24 V Vin. USB is data only on this board.
  2. Open /dashboard in Chrome or Edge and click Connect board.
  3. Choose the Espressif / USB JTAG port when the browser asks.
  4. Read position, encoder, driver, temperature, and CAN health. The page keeps polling while the USB port stays open.
  5. Confirm the shaft is safe, then enable, jog ±15°, stop, or e-stop.
  6. If no home switch is fitted, leave Ignore the HOME pin checked. An unconnected HOME input otherwise looks pressed and blocks motion.
  7. In Set node ID, pick an address from 1–12 or type 1–31, then save it on the board. A new board is node 1.

Jog and enable move the motor. Keep a power cutoff within reach. The on-screen E-stop latches the node, but it is not a safety-rated stop.

Firmware 1.9 expectations

  • STATUS reports firmware 1.9, protocol 1, and HOME diagnostics in byte 7.
  • Coils start disabled; run/hold current defaults are 20%/5%; standstill mode defaults to freewheel.
  • HOME is enabled with the production active-high wiring default.
  • The ENV payload's second float is a fixed 24.0 V reference, not measured rail voltage—the current PCB revision has no Vin ADC.

See Protocol reference for every command, parameter, telemetry payload, and CAN termination rule.
